I use images, thoughtfully crafted questions and the magic of metaphors. Using the method, most storytellers are able to explain elements of the story, acts, scenes and the emotions they are seeking for their film in ways that they’ve likely never been able to before.
The Discovery Method is often used when you begin to structure the story or at the beginning of rough cut stage.

Finding the emotional centre of your film and translating it into music.
I think it’s fair to say that some people, not all, can struggle to find a way to articulate the exact music they wish for just using words.
To provide some relief, I developed my collaborative approach to help filmmakers and editors communicate the emotional context of the story they want, and how they wish the audience to feel. Together, using this approach we can build a shared language to help us describe the music.

How I can contribute to help you find new discoveries in your story.
Discovering the shape, tone and emotional centre of your story.
I offer a personal service, where I work closely with you to help understand the areas you feel you have reached a ‘logjam’ and the direction you are aiming for.
We begin our collaboration with a Emotiff Discovery Session™ where I use images, questions and metaphor to explore the tone and emotions you are seeking for your story, acts, scenes, key characters and audience experience. The over-arching story is broken into three acts to help us focus on the key elements of each act. We look at these from the perspectives of the director and then the audience.
In many instances, the acts and core elements that underpin the story evolve and emerge from our session.
I use the outcomes of our creative conversations to develop Music Illustrations to produce early musical themes, that we use to bring another emotional dimension for you to be inspired by, as you build the story’s structure and overall tone. Also a detailed Discovery Session report is created to record the core insights and findings from our session.
We use the themes within the music illustrations to see if the emotions they create, match with the overall feel and tone you are looking for.
Original ‘temp music’ to be inspired by and to edit with.
If you wish I can provide original Temporary Music (temp music), including and/or inspired by, any of the Music Illustrations that we felt really resonated with your story.
I work closely with you to ensure that the temp music provided contains useable curated music cues for the essential parts of your story’s timeline. I take guidance and feedback from you, and incorporate these into any revisions needed.
The music I provide will be completely unique to your project. This music will not be offered to any other projects.
The music will be delivered in individual cue stems and in various mix variations, tempo and lengths. We would collectively, compile a comprehensive cue sheet of all the music and ensure it provides everything the editor needs.
Exclusive and original music collection for a TV Series.
If you should need original music for a new television series, then I can work with you to provide an Exclusive Music Collection with literally hours of carefully curated music, including any musical themes we have discovered together using the Emotiff Discovery Method™ .
The library will be exclusively for your use only. It will contain a detailed cue sheet with various stems, instrumentation, lengths and mix variations.
Original Music Film Score.
My services also extend to provide an Original Music Film Score, I can collaborate with you using my Emotiff Discovery Method™ to develop the initial Music Illustrations™ and then develop these further into the final synchronized music cues.
The final score will be true to the tone we have discovered together and the musical ideas we collaborated on. The goal will be to always honour the story. My engagement can begin at any stage of your production.
